Our company headquarters are located at 5960 N. Broadway, and must be accomplished here (not remotely). We have free on-site parking available and are located one block from the Thorndale Red Line El stop in the Edgewater neighborhood (across from Whole Foods Market on Broadway at Elmdale).

Spinning Wheel Brands is searching for an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and financial activities. The candidate will be responsible for management of day to day Controllership related activities. Duties will include management of monthly close process, accounts payable and vendor payments, accounts receivable, cash management and payroll. The role will also own management of all functional third-party relationships with corporate factoring company, internal banking partners and outside accounting firm.
Successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and has experience working closely with the senior management team. The individual needs to be very tactically oriented and work cross functionally to implement key corporate initiatives. Previous start-up company experience would be ideal for this role.
Year over year growth is skyrocketing at this equity-backed startup, comprising more than 8 separate operating companies, financial management for all of which will be overseen by this role. Future opportunities include venture capital raise experience, M&A experience, expanded banking relationship experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Take over management of all ongoing accounting functions from accounting firm (besides tax prep); work with accounting firm to get up to speed and on a consulting basis as needed.
Manage shared services accounting function in support of branded companies, including management of royalty accounting and various intercompany transactions
Develop, document, monitor and enforce business processes and accounting policies and procedures to maintain internal controls
Maintain general ledger and chart of accounts
Perform monthly and year-end financial close functions and prepare timely monthly financial statements
Develop and communicate financial metrics to senior management
Prepare factor reporting and manage receivables factoring relationship
Maintain relationships with outside professional service providers: Attorney, CPA, Human Resources consultant
Manage corporate bookkeeper and provide leadership and support of financial staff performance by coaching, mentoring, and holding employees accountable
Manage and ensure compliance with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline
Consumer products experience and / or experience working for a start-up highly desired, specifically packaged food (grocery retail)
5-10 years Accounting experience; preferably having managed in a previous role.
CPA desired but not required
Proficient with QuickBooks
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Strong written communication skills
High level of Excel/spreadsheet proficiency required
Impeccable analytical and organizational skills
Proactive, self-motivated, self-directed
